Non Films presents “Darkroom screening & salon”
Non Films is a New York-based institution for handmade films and ephemera founded by Brian Ratigan. Brian is Co-Captain of Narrative Shorts at Slamdance (alumni include Sean Baker and Bong Joon Ho) and is also a programmer for the Academy Award-qualifying Atlanta Film Festival, Tallgrass, Chicago Underground, and other prominent festivals. Together, Brian and I created “DarkRoom Screening & Salon,” an indie film series. DarkRoom features films across all genres, including narrative, documentary, experimental pieces, music videos, and works-in-progress. Each screening is one-of-a-kind: no two programs are alike, and lineups are never announced in advance (except for special screenings).

Held monthly — regularly at Nitehawk Cinema – Prospect Park, the Press Room in Alamo Drafthouse in Manhattan, and Freddy’s Bar in Brooklyn, as well as other rotating venues — DarkRoom brings together independent filmmakers, artists, writers, and musicians. We’ve showcased the work of over 400 filmmakers from all over the world — and are constantly expanding. We’ve hosted DarkRoom screenings at the historic Andrew Freedman Home in the Bronx, the legendary Film-Makers’ Cooperative in Manhattan, the art gallery Mooncalf in the East Village, Embryogallery in Union Square, and the Lyric Hyperion Theater in Los Angeles.

I designed the DarkRoom logo, create all the merchandise, and make zines featuring new cover art for all of our screenings.

Our goal is to cultivate a supportive community and create opportunities for collaboration.
